Life as a Medical Student in Wroclaw, Poland

Aspiring veterinarians love studying in Wroclaw. It is the 4th biggest city in Poland, but there are plenty of green spaces to enjoy. Wroclaw has 44 parks and green spaces. Of particular interest are Wroclaw University’s Botanical Garden and Szczytnicki Park. The latter has a Japanese garden with its own koi pond.

In addition, Wroclaw boasts the third-largest zoo in the world in terms of the number of animal species. Moreover, it’s the oldest zoo in Poland. It has a unique space devoted to African animal species with a dedicated oceanarium.

However, there is a local attraction that all students find both amazing and endearing. The Wroclaw Dwarfs are knee-high statues of gnome-like figures that populate the city. They can be found anywhere - standing in fountains, hanging from street lamps, and even sitting on benches. There are over 600 statues in the city, and potential “dwarf hunters” can use tourist maps and phone apps to find them all.

If you ever go looking for them, you might meet a cloaked figure with a top hat on Cathedral Island. While he seems like a time traveler, it’s Wroclaw’s lamplighter. His job is to light the 102 authentic gas lamps on the island, and it’s considered good luck to take a picture with him.
