About the University of Messina

University of Messina (UniME) is a state higher educational institution established in 1548 by Pope Paul III - head of the Catholic Church, from 1534 until 1549. This is the world’s first Jesuit college. The university has 12 departments with more than 100 degrees, 7 fully taught in English. It is located in the city of Messina on Sicily island.

Messina is the third-largest city on the island, with over 230,000 inhabitants. The city has several seaports for commercial and military shipyards. What makes it a popular tourist destination is not only cruise tourism. The city’s history is closely connected to the Greeks. Greek colonists founded Messina in the 8th century BC.

Courses Offered at the University of Messina

UniME’s medical programme lasts 6 years which are divided into pre-clinical and clinical. Their curriculum includes theoretical subjects, practical training in simulators, and hospitals associated with the university. Also, there are clerkships every summer, which are obligatory.

The purpose of the clerkships is to put you in real situations and make your first contact with patients. You will be included in making important decisions and solving problems connected to the treatments.

The university has a modern campus with libraries and facilities that work round the clock to improve the education provided to the students. It is definitely among the European medical universities that will never make you go back on your decision to study medicine in English.
