About University of Rzeszów, Faculty of Medicine

The University of Rzeszów was officially established in 2001, combining several older institutions. Nowadays, the university is hosting more than 22,000 students in 10 faculties. It is located in the largest city of Southeastern Poland - Rzeszow.

The city is situated on both sides of the Wislok River in the Sandomierz Basin. The town received its city rights and privileges 7 centuries ago in 1354 by Casimir III the Great. Being a tremendous historical heritage, the city has more than 180,000 citizens and is home to some of Poland’s best universities.

If you are deep into studying medicine abroad in English, the University of Rzeszów is one of the best choices you can make. This medical school offers a 6-year M.D. course thoroughly taught in English.

Extracurricular and Leisure Activities

The University of Rzeszow supports over 100 scientific clubs for students. The various groups exist to promote academic excellence and social integration. In addition, the university hosts an annual festival where science clubs display their achievements. Students with artistic talents can also participate in the university choir or theatre.

To apply to this university, you will need good grades in your high school diploma and at least a B2 level of English proficiency. When applying, you will be obliged to attend an interview in English. It aims to test your English level, basic biology and chemistry knowledge, and your motivation to study medicine. Usually, the interviews are held in the recruitment team’s office, but they may be held online by the chairman’s decision.


The university is recognised by the World Health Organisation and is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Graduating from this medical school gives you the right to practise medicine in every country around the world.


The University of Rzeszów offers 5 dormitories with more than 1,000 beds in fully-equipped single, double and triple rooms. Every two rooms share a common hall and bathroom. The rooms are connected to the TV and Internet network. There is an internal phone for free calls to the other buildings of the university.

Every floor of the dormitory has a shared kitchen with 3 countertops, an oven, and a microwave. The kitchens and the halls are equipped with LEDs switched on by movement. In the basements, you will find leisure rooms with billiards, rooms for occasional events, and ping-pong tables. TV, laundry, and study rooms are also shared by all of the students in the building.

If you decide to live on your own in Rzeszow, your monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment will be between €270 and €400. Your monthly utilities and living expenses will be around €450, according to your needs.

Life as a Medical Student in Rzeszow, Poland

Rzeszow is among the smaller regional cities in Poland. It is located in the Southeastern parts of the country, and it’s relatively close to Krakow. Rzeszow straddles the Wislok River, and many parks, pedestrian walks, and bike lanes along the water. The city is quite green, and there is even a nature reserve within it. Thus, lovers of nature will certainly enjoy living in it.

Rzeszow’s centre is well preserved, and it has many neoclassical buildings from the end of the 19th century. Students love to spend time in the city square with its many restaurants, bars, and shops. Moreover, most theatres, galleries, and museums are within walking distance. Thus, the city square is an excellent place to start or end the night.

In addition, several natural reserves are within several miles of the city. The Lipie fishing pond is a great place to relax, while the Zablocie reservation has picturesque trails to explore.

Term Dates

The winter semester starts at the beginning of October and lasts until the end of January, with a 2-week Christmas holiday. The semester is followed by a 2-week examination period.

The summer semester starts at the end of February and continues until the middle of June. There is a 1-week Easter break. The semester ends with a 3-week examination period.
