The General Medicine Course in English at JFMED is also fully accredited, which means the programme meets all the academic standards and requirements set by the Ministry of Education. Additionally, it is internationally recognised as a high-quality medical education programme which meets the strict requirements of the European Union.

The Medicine course is a 6-year joint programme of undergraduate and postgraduate cycles that thoroughly prepares students to become successful doctors. It follows the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), which makes it easy to go on exchange programmes or transfer to a different European university.

Admission Requirements for Jessenius Faculty of Medicine

The admission requirements for the General Medicine Course in English at Jessenius Faculty of Medicine ask students to meet the following criteria:

  • Completed secondary school education. If you are still studying, you can submit a certificate at a later stage.
  • A passing score on the entrance exam
  • Medical confirmation of general health

The entrance examination consists of questions in Biology and Chemistry and is usually held online. Typically, there are 3 admission test exam dates per academic year - at the beginning of June, late July, and mid-August. However, you can only take the exam once - no resits are available.

JFMED offers pre-med courses in Biology and Chemistry to prepare students for the entrance examination. They are held online and cost €198 total, or €99 if you want to sign up for only one of the subjects.

Term Dates/Semesters at Jessenius Faculty of Medicine

The winter semester usually starts in mid-September and ends in late December. After a break for the Christmas holidays, students go into an exam period, which lasts from the start of January to mid-February.

The summer semester typically starts in mid-February and ends in late May, followed by an assessment period between the end of May and the end of June.

General Medicine Programme for Jessenius Medical Faculty

Student Accommodation

Jessenius Faculty of Medicine offers accommodation at two different residences: L. Novomeského and P.O. Hviezdoslava. The monthly fee ranges from €62 to €183, depending on the type of accommodation. A 100 € holding deposit is also required, which will be refunded at the end of your stay.

In addition to the basic amenities, the residences also offer various facilities and services for students, such as laundry rooms, sports facilities, and social spaces. Both facilities are monitored by CCTV and have secure door entry.

  • L. Novomeského is a large building that offers apartment-based accommodations. The building has been recently refurbished and has a canteen, where affordable, freshly-cooked food is available. Additionally, this facility is only 10 minutes away from the city centre.
  • P.O. Hviezdoslava is a smaller building that has also been completely refurbished recently. It works on a twin or triple-room basis, and every room has its own private facilities. In place of a canteen, this building gives students access to their own kitchenettes. This facility is even closer to the centre, as it is within a 2-minute walking distance from the centre.

Alternatively, students may also consider renting private accommodation, which may offer more options and flexibility, but will be more expensive. 

Research at Jessenius Faculty of Medicine
