About University of Zagreb School of Medicine

The University of Zagreb started its history in 1669 as the first university in Croatia and South-East Europe. The university expanded in no time, and nowadays, there are more than 20 faculties in different disciplines. The school offers courses in Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary.

Zagreb is the capital and the largest city in Croatia, with over 800,000 inhabitants. It is situated along the Sava River and the Southern slopes of the Madvednica mountain. Each year Zagreb welcomes more and more international students seeking a prestigious European University.

The University of Zagreb invests in the most modern equipment in the medical field. Also, it hires the best professionals in the country who are able to share their large knowledge in a proper way with the students. 

The curriculum in the pre-medical years includes theoretical lectures to acquire deep knowledge of science subjects. Step by step, in the clinical years, you will start practising in simulators and attending hospitals. Each summer, you are obliged to take clerkships in a hospital of your choice. 

This university does not offer graduate-entry pathways in dentistry and medicine but accepts student transfers. However, transfers are not admitted for a higher year than the 2nd year.

The tuition fees at this university can be paid in one or two installments and are as follows:

  • Medicine, 6-year course: $ 12503 annually 
  • Dentistry, 5-year course: €10,000 annually 
  • Veterinary, 6-year course: €9,000 annually

University of Zagreb School of Medicine Admission & Entry Requirements

Due to the different grading systems in countries around the globe, this university requires an evaluation of secondary school grades as a criterion for admission. You will have to pass the written exams in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

The test consists of 120 questions, with 40 questions per subject. To pass the exam, you need at least 15 right answers in each section and an overall score of more than 61 correct answers. 

The University does exceptions for the following:

  • Students who have completed a pre-medical college or passed internationally recognized exams like the MCAT with a minimum score of 125 for each section;
  • Students who have earned BA/BSc degrees in natural sciences with good credits in Biology, physics, and chemistry;
  • Students who have taken SAT in biology, physics, and chemistry with a minimum score of 600 in each subject;
  • Students who have taken the BMAT test.

Also, you will need to show proof of English knowledge in case the student's mother tongue language is not English or the student hasn't done his education fully in English.

Accreditation

Graduating from this university opens the door to the international medical world. Your diploma will be globally recognised and will allow you to practise everywhere around the globe.

The university is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and is recognised by the World Health Organisation. Also, the curriculum is structured in accordance with all the GMC standards, so you will be eligible to practise as a doctor even in the UK.

Accommodation

The University of Zagreb doesn’t provide accommodation for international students. Every student must rent their accommodation here. Term Dates

The academic year starts at the end of September, and the winter term ends in the third week of January. The exam session is held from the 15th of January until the 19th of February. 

The summer semester begins in the last week of February and ends at the beginning of June. The examination period takes place during June and the first week of July.

There are several days off and breaks around the holidays.
