About the University of East Sarajevo Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of East Sarajevo (UES) was established in 1993 in the beautiful town of Foca. Since then, it has developed a reputation for high-quality education and is recognised throughout Europe and the world for its medical and dentistry programmes. The faculty spans over 6000 sq. metres and is equipped with modern facilities to support a comprehensive educational experience. 

UES stands as a symbol of excellence in both medical education and research in Bosnia and Herzegovina and is one of the leading universities in the country. The medical school’s mission is to train highly qualified professionals who can excel in their respective fields not only within the country, but across the world.

The University of East Sarajevo uses the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), which guarantees a fair and transparent approach to student assessment. Additionally, this system ensures that the education received will be recognised internationally, while also facilitating easy transfer of credits. It also allows students to easily participate in exchange programs like Erasmus+, which can let them gain international experience and exposure.

UES is actively involved in a variety of international projects, collaborations, and associations, showcasing its commitment to the international success of the university and its students.

Upon graduation, students receive an internationally recognised diploma that will allow them to become healthcare professionals in many countries across the world.

Courses Offered at the University of East Sarajevo Faculty of Medicine

The Medicine Programme at UES lasts for 6 years and gives 360 ECTS credits.

The Dentistry Course is also 6 years and gives 360 ECTS credits.

Both programmes are taught in English, and the academic year begins at the end of October.

UES doesn’t offer graduate entry paths into medicine or dentistry, but University of East Sarajevo student transfers are accepted.

The University of East Sarajevo Faculty of Medicine application deadlines are as follows:

Regular Application Period (for new candidates):

The application period is usually at the beginning of July, and an online entrance exam is carried out around the middle of July.

Fall Term Application (if places are available):

The application period is usually from the middle of July until the beginning of September. The entrance exam is then carried out at the beginning of September. Please note that the fall entrance exam will only take place if there are available places, so it's essential to apply as early as possible.

Winter Semester Start:

The winter semester begins in mid-Fall 2024.

Recently, in February 2020, the faculty signed three cooperation agreements with the Medicine University of Belgrade and the Clinical Center of Serbia.
