About University of Targu Mures Medical Campus Hamburg (UMCH), Germany

UMCH is a medical university in Hamburg, Germany, that recently established a cooperation agreement with the Targu Mures University of Romania. Targu Mures University is the largest medical university in Romania. More than 11,000 students are enrolled there. It comprises 3 faculties related to medicine – Faculty of Human Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Pharmacy.

University Medical Campus Hamburg (UMCH) is the first branch of the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology of Targu Mures. It was founded due to the rising international interest in this university so that students can now study medicine in English in Hamburg, Germany, without admission restrictions based on school grades.

UMCH’s campus is situated in Hamburg’s Bahrenfeld neighbourhood, nicknamed “Science City”. Bahrenfeld belongs to the Altona district and is one of the most attractive educational centres in Germany. It is easily accessible by car and public transportation; it’s one of the greenest regions of Hamburg and offers a high-quality living environment.

The campus offers students the most modern facilities, such as multimedia lecture halls, learning and IT areas with excellently equipped workstations. In laboratories with the latest medical technology and equipment, students learn the required medical skills and have the opportunity to conduct research-based experiments. These include laboratories for biology, chemistry and microscopy.

The medical students also take advantage of the help of the Anatomage Table – a virtual 3D anatomy and dissection table – the most technologically advanced system for anatomy visualisation. The use of this innovative technology helps medical students to explore the anatomy of the human body in a varied and vivid way. With the help of 3D representations, anatomical structures can be interactively conveyed and organs, blood vessels and nerve fibres can be viewed from every angle.

The university address is Albert-Einstein-Ring 11-15, 22761 Hamburg, Germany.

Life as a Medical Student in Hamburg, Germany

The city of Hamburg originated as a castle built by Charlemagne in the ninth century. The original structure was named Hamburg, and while little remains of it, the name stuck to the city.

Hamburg has a rich history as an important trade port in the Hanseatic League and an industrial centre. In addition, the city has given much to the world, including Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelsohn, Karl Lagerfeld, and last but not least, the hamburger itself.

Today, the city hosts more than 100,000 university students. While the quality of German education is indisputable, the entertainment potential of the town could easily impair the academic focus of aspiring doctors.

Hamburg has over a hundred musical venues such as concert stages, nightclubs, bars, and opera houses. The local music scene has deep roots and international recognition. The Beatles themselves lived and played in Hamburg for two years.

In addition, the city is remarkably green, thanks to an urban plan that’s been active for more than a century. Hamburg has clean waterways, tree-lined streets, and many enormous city parks. The central Planten und Biomen is right in the city centre, and it contains several themed gardens. The Japanese garden there even has its own koi pond!

The city itself has no skyscrapers and only a few high-rise buildings. The spires of the skyline belong primarily to churches, and governmental and cultural buildings.

Furthermore, Hamburg has numerous English-speaking communities. The British diaspora in the city is very active. They have established several societies, including cricket clubs, the Hamburg Exiles Rugby Club, The Professional Women’s Forum, and The British Decorative and Fine Arts Society.
