The Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1919, and it was then part of the University of Cluj. In 1948, it became an independent Medico-Pharmaceutical institute with 5 different faculties: Medicine, Paediatrics, Stomatology, Pharmacy and Hygiene.
In 1990, the Medico-Pharmaceutical Institute changed its name to the “University of Medicine and Pharmacy”. Two years later, they added the iconic figure of Iuliu Haţieganu to complete the university’s name to Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy.

The university also fulfils all criteria set by the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK.
