About the University of Novi Sad

The University of Novi Sad was established in 1960 as a public higher education institution. It consists of 14 faculties located in 4 cities and has gained distinction in many research projects. The school hosts more than 40,000 students and is the second-largest Serbian university.

The city of Novi Sad has a population of over 270,000 inhabitants, making it the second-largest city in the country. Nowadays, you can see monuments and buildings that preserve the city’s long history.

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Novi Sad is located in the city of Novi Sad and ranks as one of the top places to study medicine abroad.

Courses Offered at the University of Novi Sad

The medicine and dentistry courses are the most well-established and longest-operating programmes in Serbia since the English-taught courses were first introduced in 1993. The medical school prepares students to become medical and dental doctors. It aims to educate well-prepared professionals eligible to practise on their own after graduation.

This university doesn’t offer a graduate entry route, but accepts transfer students up to the 4th year of study. Each academic year covers 60 ECTS credits at this university. Transfer students, with academic differences, may need to study any missing subjects, on top of the usual subjects, in the year they are transferring to at this university. In this case, transfer students would have to pay approximately per extra credit on top of the usual tuition fees. This applies if the student has some subjects missing in their transcript compared to the University of Novi Sad's curriculum.

The extra credits are in addition to the normal curriculum and sequence of subjects in Serbia. For example, if you are transferring into the 4th year of medicine, but you are missing "Psychological Medicine" (3 ECTS) then you'd be accepted into the fourth year on condition that you study "Psychological Medicine" on top of all of the subjects of the fourth year. Therefore, an additional fee to cover the teaching hours provided to you in "Psychological Medicine" would be per credit. Therefore, in total 3 ECTS multiplied by , coming to a total of , on top of the annual tuition fee of .

Study Pharmacy in English at Novi Sad University

The English-taught Pharmacy programme at Novi Sad University takes 5 years (10 semesters) to complete. Graduating students obtain a Master's degree in Pharmacy. Upon course, completion Pharmacy graduate (total ECTS credits earned: 300) will have mastered skills of rational drug use for diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic purposes.

Extracurricular and Leisure Activities

There is a big variety of extracurricular activities and international students are encouraged to join. About University Exams and the Way of Teaching

You may think that there's something more unusual about studying medicine in English in Novi Sad, but that's not the case at all. The lecturers have structured the tuition in English to be exactly the same as in Serbian.

When it comes to university exams and how they're held, it very much depends on the particular department you're in, but in most cases, students will have one or a combination of the following:

  • Multiple choice questions and answers
  • Oral formats
  • Written and practical tests

That there are no state exams at this level of study.

Accreditation

The University of Novi Sad is accredited for providing higher education by the Commission for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Serbia. The institution is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and is recognised by the World Health Organisation. Their English courses in medicine meet all the General Medical Council's standards for international medical graduates. Students and graduates from this faculty are eligible to apply for registration in Canada, or for ECFMG certification to work in the USA.

Accommodation

The University of Novi Sad has 10 dormitory buildings, but dormitories are available only for local students who are eligible, as they would receive state funding for that purpose. Life as a Medical Student in Novi Sad, Serbia

Novi Sad, home to around 350,000 residents, is a lively city offering a host of activities. It's a mere 70 km from the capital, Belgrade, and around 300 km from Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Term Dates

The academic year is divided into two terms - winter and spring. 

The winter term takes place from mid-October until mid-January, followed by a 1-week break and 2-week examination period.  

The spring term begins in the last week of February and continues until the beginning of June. Exams are held during the whole summer.
