About University of Novi Sad

The University of Novi Sad was established in 1960 as a public higher education institution. Nowadays, it consists of 14 faculties located in 4 cities and has gained distinction in many research projects. The school hosts more than 40,000 students and is the second-largest Serbian university.

The city of Novi Sad has a population of over 270,000 inhabitants, making it the second-largest city in the country. The city was heavily devastated by the revolution in the middle of the 19th century, but it was fully rebuilt and restored. Nowadays, you can see monuments and buildings that preserve the city’s long history.

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Novi Sad is located in the city of Novi Sad and ranks as one of the top places to study medicine abroad. The medicine and dentistry courses are the most well-established and longest operating programmes in Serbia, since the English-taught courses were first introduced in 1993. The medical school prepares students to become medical and dental doctors. It aims to educate well-prepared professionals eligible to practise on their own after graduation.

The University hosts a number of teaching professors from the USA and Canada who teach the international students, alongside several Serbian teaching professors who received training in top medical institutions such as Harvard Medical School.

Some of the prospective students might feel unsure about whether their Biology and Chemistry knowledge is enough to directly apply for a course. There is nothing to worry about, The Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad has online, crash preparatory courses that will get applicants ready for an entrance exam so they can pass and study English language-based programmes. the courses aim to help students to improve their high-school knowledge of subjects like Chemistry and Biology and give them questions that are similar to those of the admission exam. Courses are taught by teachers who actually work at the university and are highly specialised in those subjects. They carefully explain the matter of the subjects, as well as the necessary terminology.

The intensive preparatory course lasts for 2 weeks. It's composed of 45 hours of Biology and 45 hours of Chemistry held in the faculty. You can also choose an intensive online course in one of the subjects or both. By mid August, all participants will be notified about the availability of all teachers and the schedules of classes. Candidates have the right to use textbooks designated for secondary education like high-school or college, or pre-medical courses on certain subjects.

Note that the preparatory course is very useful, because it would give you a competitive edge over other applicants. The price for either Biology or Chemistry is normally EUR 600, but Medlink Students will give you all the required resources and information for FREE. If you would like exclusive access to the wealth of knowledge and resources within this preparatory course, reach out to our team of expert advisers:

The preferable pre-medical course for international students is the foundation year. It includes not only the subjects Biology and Chemistry but also courses in English and Serbian, basics of Anatomy, and Physiology. This programme guarantees you a really good head start on your studies and a competitive score on the entrance exams.

This university doesn’t offer a graduate entry route, but accepts transfer students up to the 4th year of study. Each academic year covers 60 ECTS credits at this university. Transfer students, with academic differences, may need to study any missing subjects, on top of the usual subjects, in the year they are transfering to at this university. In this case, transfer students would have to pay approximately EUR 100 per extra credit on top of the usual EUR 6500 tuition fees. This applies if the student has some subjects missing in their transcript compared to the University of Novi Sad's curriculum.

The extra credits are in addition to the normal curriculum and sequence of subjects in Serbia. For example, if you are transferring into the 4th year of medicine, but you are missing "Psychological Medicine" (3 ECTS) then you'd be accepted into the fourth year on condition that you study "Psychological Medicine" on top of all of the subjects of the fourth year. Therefore, an additional fee to cover the teaching hours provided to you in "Psychological Medicine" would be EUR 100 per credit. Therefore, in total 3 ECTS multiplied by EUR 100, coming to a total of EUR 300, on top of the annual tuition fee of EUR 6500.
