What is The KROK Test?

What is the KROK test

KROK means “Integrated License exam under European Credit Transfer System”. It’s a two-part licensing examination that evaluates medical students in Ukraine. After passing KROK part 2, students become qualified medical practitioners in Ukraine.

The test is a necessary examination for every doctor in Ukraine. Its questions and dates vary depending on the subject you study.

Usually, medical students take KROK part 1 after finishing their 3rd (pre-clinical) year. KROK part 2 is taken during the final (clinical) year. The year in which you will take KROK 2 depends on your speciality. Medicine courses in Ukraine are 6 years long, and Dentistry is 5 years long. So your final year during which you will need to take KROK will be the 5th or 6th year.

Duration of the KROK exam

The KROK exams last for 3 hours and 20 minutes in total (200 minutes in total).

In what language can you take the KROK?

KROK examination is available in 3 languages: Ukrainian, Russian and English.

The reasons why KROK has 3 languages available are:

  • The majority of Ukraine’s population communicates in 2 languages: Russian and Ukrainian
  • Ukraine is welcoming international students. Therefore having an English version of the KROK exam is a must.

Results and KROK passing percentage

Each KROK part consists of 200 questions in total. You must successfully answer 121/200 questions - 60.5% to pass the exam

Each correct answer gives you 1 point. You don't lose points for wrong answers.

As mentioned before, the test ensures you have enough theoretical medical knowledge to start your clinical practice. Because it’s a necessary test that every 3rd-year student must pass, you need to answer at least 60.5% of the questions correctly. However, if you fail, you still have 2 more tries and plenty of time to fill in your knowledge gaps.

If the students have “Not Passed” after the third attempt, they must wait another year to retry.

Location

The licensing exam takes place in classrooms or lecture rooms provided by high schools and universities.

The regulations state that a classroom shouldn’t contain more than 100 examinees. Additionally, the number of examinees in one classroom should not exceed half of the seats available.

Registration

Registration begins 3 months before the exam dates. All students are registered by the Testing Boards of their Medical Schools.
