Studying Medicine After Nursing. How does it work?

Medicine after nursing

Since the emergence of the nursing profession back in ancient history nurses are expected to know almost as much as doctors do while doing the extra work. A profession involving not only a lot of knowledge but also emotion. Nurses are expected to forge an intimate bond with the patient and therefore hasten the recovery process. A truly admirable profession.

There are a lot of cases when nurses actually are more capable and knowledgeable than doctors themselves and at the same time, they are being disrespected because they are deemed as not that authoritative. It is thus expected that they opt to study medicine in Europe because of all the opportunities that they are presented with.

There are nursing students who dedicate all their time and effort to become a good example and in the end, they feel and are mistreated and underpaid. There is nothing worse than having your dreams broken when their fulfilment doesn’t depend solely on your efforts and dedication.

What should we say about male nurses? Nursing is no longer a pure female profession and it is not uncommon that male nurses who dedicate their lives to help patients become subjects of mockery.

Let me tell you a story. While I was doing an internship in Varna, Bulgaria through Varna Medical University I met a nurse who had been in the profession for more than 35 years and at the age of 60, she was still taking night shifts. She had been known to help and educate the new doctors on different procedures and manipulations.

This woman had been absolutely killing herself for so many years because she was in love with the profession. She was in love with her patients. Despite all her effort, at the end of the day, the gratitude for all her dedication was a salary of mere €300. And trust me, Bulgaria is not that undeveloped. As an example, waiters make around €600 here.

You decide for yourself if you want to change your life for the best and embrace the opportunity to reorientate as a doctor.

There are people who just swallow the pain and keep on doing what they love but the truth is, they don’t have to. If you’ve already gone through the process of studying hard day and night then why not invest a few more years and become an actual doctor? Why not gain the respect that you deserve?

A lot of those people have already opted to study graduate medicine in Europe after some medical universities have perceived this problem and have introduced such programs into their study courses. These are designed not only for nurses but also physiotherapists, radiographists, microbiologists and basically all other health specialists that know the struggle of pursuing such a profession.

They are all presented with the opportunity to opt for an accelerated medicine and dentistry course in Europe. What this means is that they will be exempted from most of the subjects and they won’t need to sit an exam for them. This way they can look to graduate as doctors and dentists in just 4 years. In fact, there is one university – Dnipro Medical Institute in Ukraine that is the only medical school to offer a 3-year course of graduate medicine in Europe! Currently, the ONLY agency in Europe that is certified to provide this course is Medlink Students.

These programs have become increasingly popular over the years because there are a lot of capable specialists who are mistreated by the government by being underpaid and overworked and also disrespected by the close-minded community. No matter how sad it may seem, a lot of people still think that nurses are somehow obliged to work themselves off, forget about their social life and put up with a low salary.

This is why it’s become increasingly popular among nursing specialists to pursue medicine and why wouldn’t they? They are more than half doctors and they also have the ability to touch the patient’s soul and heal it without medication. Personally, I think this on its own makes a nurse and a doctor what they are. A lot of people nowadays have forgotten the real purpose of the profession and have been blinded by greed.

Having graduated in just a few years these specialists carry not only the knowledge of a medical doctor but also the emotional intelligence of a nurse.

Our medical universities also accept transfers from one medical school to another. In most cases, nursing students are given the opportunity to reorientate themselves towards a medical degree.

All of us healthcare specialists dedicate our lives to help people and save lives. There comes a time however when we need to rethink and make a decision to help ourselves.
