The Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy was established in 1879 and named in honour of the famous Romanian scientist Grigore T. Popa. It is one of the oldest universities in Romania and offers four faculties: Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Medical Bioengineering.
It is situated in Iași which is one of the largest cities in Romania, located in the North-East part and only 500km from the capital city. The city is spread over seven valleys and is colloquially nicknamed “city of the seven hills”. Whilst, not a bustling metropolis it does have a young cosmopolitan spirit due to its almost 50,000 students. Iasi is a cultural hub with its National Theatre and “Luceafarul” Theatre one can expect to be entertained by the best string quartets in Europe the “Voces” Quartet at the G.E Philharmonic. If you’re so inclined you can even visit the jewel of Iași known as The Palace of Culture with its museums of history, science and art. Close to the Palace you have an extensive “lifestyle centre” which is equipped with a shopping mall, food court, event halls and even a multiplex cinema.
The living costs for students studying medicine abroad are extremely cheap with rent ranging from €200 to €300 per month and utilities averaging roughly €75 per month. So you can expect to pay roughly €450 to €525 per month for everything inclusive. Medicine in English 6 Years: €5000 per year
• The first three years being pre-clinical in nature with a heavy emphasis on the fundamental subjects; Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Biophysics for example. • The latter three years are clinical with a focus on surgery and preventative medicine with more of an emphasis on practical work and visiting patients in hospitals and clinics.
Dentistry in English 6 Years: €5000 per year
The disciplines are grouped into 2 categories:
• 62% of Stomatological disciplines
• 38% Medical, surgical and fundamental disciplines
New disciplines are always updated and added as needed in accordance with European standards and West-European educational systems such as Biomaterials and Bioequipments, Implantology, Management and Dental Aesthetics. Deadline for Application: 13th July (please don’t wait until the last minute to apply!) Whilst there are no entrance exams you will need to make sure all documents are up to date and in your possession so we can get started on the admissions process. Transcripts of your high school education and certificates as well as your passport and birth certificate are vital to the process so please have them on hand.
